I’m calling with Oak Park Call To Action to thank Senator Duckworth/Durbin for her/his continued leadership and commitment to the fight against gun violence. I’m also calling to urge the Senator to renew her/his support for the Assault Weapons Ban of 2017.
SAMPLE SCRIPT FROM A 7th GRADER
I’m a middle-schooler from Oak Park, IL. Today, in my community, the high school students organized a walk out in protest of gun violence. In my school we had 17 minutes of silence to represent the 17 students killed in Florida last week. The potential of these students and teachers we lost are gone to us now. Do we favor the money and power of the NRA more then we favor the potential of these young lives? Please urge your colleagues to hear us and work to create a safer country for us to grow, learn and live in.

Summary
Illinois Senators Tammy Duckworth and Richard Durbin have long been advocates for common-sense gun legislation. In November of last year, they both co-sponsored the Assault Weapons Ban of 2017 which, among other things, would ban the sale, transfer, manufacture and importation of military-style assault weapons. In June 2016, Senator Duckworth got out of her wheelchair and sat on the floor of the House Of Representatives with Richard Durban and other Democratic colleagues for 25 hours to force a vote on gun legislation. Let’s let them know that we support their efforts. Let’s let them know that the time is now, during this powerful moment after the horror in Parkland, to continue the fight!

Please join the Democratic Party of Oak Park in supporting the passage of Sen Don Harmon’s bill - IL Senate Bill 1657 Gun Dealer Licensing - by calling voters in key districts and asking them to contact their IL House Representatives and ask that they vote YES.
SB1657 Gun Dealer Licensing will dramatically reduce the number of crime guns that come from Illinois gun dealers by requiring that they follow safe and responsible business practices so that guns do not end up in the hands of people who should not have them. We are so close to the goal line. Let’s get Sen Harmon’s bill passed and make a major impact on the gun violence problem in our state. Thank you!
